Fernandez joins Campos for second Formula 3 season
Sebastian Fernandez will drive for Campos in the 2019 FIA Formula 3 championship for his second campaign at the third tier of the motorsport ladder.
Fernandez stepped up a level in the 2018 European F3 season with Motopark, claiming two points finishes after two years with F4 machinery.
The 18-year-old claimed wins in the Italian and UAE categories, finishing fourth in the former’s standings in 2017.
He went on to test with the Spanish squad in both F2 and GP3 post-season sessions in Abu Dhabi one month ago.
His times on his second day in the GP3/16 Dallara machine – a similar car to the F3 2019 chassis that will be used next season – put him fourth in the overall standings.
“We need to keeping working in order to fulfil our agenda and the goals we have set for ourselves,” Fernandez said.
“It’s important to continue our learning process towards F1. I would like to thank Adrian and Adri for the opportunity to drive for their team. I’m sure it will benefit each and every one of us.”
“We were pleasantly surprised with Sebas in Abu Dhabi and I’m sure he will complete an amazing season surprising everyone,” team owner Adrian Campos added.
“It’s such a pleasure to have such a talent joining our team.”
The Spaniard is the sixth driver to be confirmed for the 30-place grid, and first for Campos, with two other spots available in its team.
