Ferrari academy driver Giuliano Alesi has gone fastest in GP3 practice at Abu Dhabi, leading Trident team-mate David Beckmann by 0.892s.

Alesi set a lap time of 1m55.676s in the final two minutes by setting the best times in each sector and could not be denied by the German’s later effort.

Beckmann improved in the first sector on his best attempt but could not continue in the next two after leading the session earlier.

Gabriel Aubry finished third with the same time as Beckmann ahead of series debutant Jehan Daruvala, and Arden team-mate Joey Mawson.

Both Aubry and Mawson consistently placed high in the standings, initially setting the pace with times in the 1m57s and 58s bracket before improving to the 1m56s.

Sacha Fenestraz joined the duo in the top six for the British outfit, starting its final weekend in the series as the only current team not moving into FIA Formula 3 for 2019.

Campos’ Leonardo Pulcini was seventh above one of the two drivers’ championship contenders Anthoine Hubert.

MP’s Devlin DeFrancesco and Richard Verschoor completed the top 10.

ART’s Jake Hughes was 12th, one place above Hubert’s title rival Nikita Mazepin.

Tatiana Calderon – fresh from testing with Sauber C32 and C37 machinery – was 18th above Ferrari-backed Callum Ilott.
