Alesi to spend third GP3 season with Trident

Ferrari Formula 1 academy racer Giuliano Alesi is remaining at Trident to compete in a third GP3 season during 2018.

Alesi, son of ex-F1 driver Jean, continues in the category after a breakthrough 2017 in which he claimed three sprint race victories at Britain, Hungary and Belgium.

The 18-year-old ended the campaign in fifth in the drivers’ standings, the best placed of any non-ART competitor.

The Frenchman also took part in last December’s post-season test at Abu Dhabi, claiming a best result of second on the afternoon of day one.

“We are absolutely delighted to announce the extended collaboration with Giuliano Alesi,” team owner Maurizio Salvadori said.

“He has exquisite manners and he is an extremely professional driver with a brilliant future ahead.

“Our priority will be to support him with the utmost commitment and enable him to aim for the most ambitious goals.”

He is the first to be named as part of the Italian outfit’s four-car line-up and is the 10th driver set to race in the series in its final year.

Seats claimed on 2018 GP3 grid so far:

ART Grand Prix: Anthoine Hubert, Jake Hughes, Callum Ilott, Nikita Mazepin

Trident: Giuliano Alesi

Arden: Gabriel Aubry

Campos: Simo Laaksonen, Leonardo Pulcini

MP Motorsport: Dorian Boccolacci, Niko Kari
