The fifth round of the 2017 World Supersport Championship from Imola has been postponed until after the second World Superbike race of the weekend, following a delayed start and two red flag periods.
The original start was delayed after Federico Caricasulo’s Yamaha R6 ground to a halt on the warm-up lap. Once racing finally got underway, a crash for Roberto Rolfo at the final corner at the end of lap one left gravel and fluid littered across the circuit.

After another delay, the second start made it to lap three before the red flags were flown yet again for a crash involving Rolfo. The Italian, along with Kazuki Watanabe and wildcard Marco Malone were tangled at Turn 7, their bikes left stricken at the edge of the circuit.

Thankfully all riders were unhurt, but with the second Superbike outing fast approaching and worldwide television schedules to keep on time, Race Direction had no option but to postpone the race to after WorldSBK race two.
WorldSSP round five will now get underway at 14:20 local time, with the Supersport300 and European Superstock1000 races taking place at 15:15 and 16:00 respectively.
