Nicolo Bulega says he is close to finalising his long-awaited move from World Superbikes to MotoGP with VR46 for the 2027 season.
According to a fresh update from Crash.net, the dominant World Superbike championship leader opened up on his grand prix future after Friday’s practice at the UK round at Donington, revealing that his management are working hard alongside Ducati to nail down the final details of a switch he has chased for months. Bulega, who extended his unbeaten Donington form into the British round once again, said he expects a clear answer on his future very soon.

Bulega is understood to have moved past Ducati and VR46’s original one-plus-one contract proposal and is instead closing in on a two-year deal through 2028, with the Italian tipped to inherit Franco Morbidelli’s garage and race engineer once he arrives in the paddock. That would mark a significant upgrade on the shorter-term terms that had left his camp unconvinced only a fortnight earlier, around the time the VR46 Ducati renewal first reshaped the team’s 2027 plans.
BMW have refused to let the move go uncontested, making a fresh approach to Bulega’s representatives as Ducati’s option on the rider edges toward its deadline this month. Bulega himself has made no secret of the trade-offs involved, insisting a rookie campaign will require sacrifice “not just about money, but everything,” while adding he is happy the move is finally coming together.
With those closing details reportedly the last obstacle, a formal confirmation of Bulega’s graduation to the premier class could follow within days of the Donington weekend concluding.
