Althea BMW’s Jordi Torres enjoyed a solid start to his home round at MotorLand Aragon, the Spaniard comfortably making it into the second part of Superpole.
Torres has made a decent start to the 2017 season on his S1000RR, taking three top eight finishes from the first four races, as well as gaining direct passage into SP2 on both occasions.

Happy with the progress he has made, Torres set out today to try and close the gap to the leaders further. For much of the first session, the Spaniard ran inside the top two after a blistering effort of 1m50.798s.
“It hasn’t gone badly. We did well during the morning and towards the end of the session I was able to set a very fast time,” said Torres.
Ending the session fourth, Torres was certainly heading in the right direction to meet his targets. However, the afternoon session proved to be decidedly more difficult for the Spaniard.
With an eye on tomorrow’s race, Torres opted to spend the afternoon outing evaluating the various compounds of Pirelli rubber available. The combination he tried upset the balance of the bike and resulted in a small crash at the first turn 15 minutes in.
Unscathed in the incident, Torres reverted back to the tyres he ran in FP1. Spots of rain materialised in the closing stages, and this halted the BMW rider from improving on his seventh spot on the combined times.

“This afternoon, we tested the two different tyre solutions, but this really changed the bike and I lost my way a little,” he explained.
“I also had a small crash, but nothing serious luckily. I went back out on the tyre I’d used this morning but then it started to rain, and so I couldn’t improve on my lap time.”
Team-mate Markus Reiterberger made a step forward with the set-up of his bike, but a lack of rear grip in the afternoon meant he couldn’t improve on his FP1 best of 1m51.753s and was 13th on the combined times.
