Maria Herrera will remain in the Moto3 World Championship next season after penning a deal to join the AGR team, riding KTM machinery.
The Spaniard made her Grand Prix debut back in 2013 in Aragon whilst also enjoying success in the CEV Repsol Junior Moto3 Championship. Herrera made her full-time Moto3 debut in 2015 with the Laglisse squad and was retained by the team for 2016.
However, financial woes for the team left Herrera having to run a KTM under her own banner partway through the season. Despite being a regular feature in the battle for the points, Herrera’s season has been a difficult one. She has scored just seven points in 2016 and will miss this weekend’s season finale in Valencia after injuring her shoulder in a heavy fall during the Malaysian Grand Prix.

“First, I want to thank Karlos Arginano (AGR team boss) for this opportunity. I had quite a lot of trouble this year, as everyone knows, and this chance gives me a lot of motivation,” she said.
“It makes me look forward to 2017, because I know I’ll have the best in the garage. The atmosphere at the AGR is amazing and we’ll do our best to achieve the good results we want.”
The AGR team currently contest the Moto2 World Championship with Marcel Schrotter and Axel Pons, and have tallied up several victories in the past courtesy of Jonas Folger. It was announced recently that Aspar MotoGP rider Yonny Hernandez will join the squad in the intermediate class next season.
