Jonathan Rea has clinched his second World Superbike championship in a row, becoming the first rider since the great Carl Fogarty to complete such a feat.
Rea’s second place was good enough to win the title, after Tom Sykes could only manage fourth.
Chaz Davies won the race for Ducati, with many wondering whether the Welshman will be a force next season. Injuries and crashes have played havoc with Davies’ season, and meant he was unable to challenge Rea for the title.
Third place went to Sylvain Guintoli, who managed to pick up Yamaha’s first podium since returning to the championship this season. This weekend will be the Frenchman’s last outing for the team, after being replaced by Michael van der Mark for 2017.
Fourth was Sykes, with Nicky Hayden finishing just behind him in fifth. Xavi Fores, Alex Lowes and Jordi Torres were sixth, seventh and eighth, whilst van der Mark was ninth.
Tenth would go to Lorenzo Savadori, whilst Leon Haslam, wildcarding this weekend, was eleventh.
Only one race remains in this years championship, with Race two kicking off tomorrow. You’ll find all the coverage here at Read Motorsport.
