Bulega dominates early times at Phillip Island

Nicolo Bulega has taken an early lead in the first practice session at Phillip Island for the Moto3 class.

The Italian managed some treacherous conditions to take an early lead, as yet again the rain fell down under. The Sky VR46 rider had a lead of over four tenths over fellow Italian Niccolo Antonelli, who was second.

Aron Canet was third on his first visit to the Australian circuit. Gabriel Rodrigo ended the session in fifth, whilst Andrea Migno finished in sixth position.

The wet conditions were too much for some riders to handle, with some crashing out. One of these was Enea Bastianini, who fell victim to the conditions early in the session. 2016 Moto3 champion Brad Binder also had a big moment but was able to stay on his bike.

The Moto3 sessions continue later, with FP2 getting underway at 4:10 BST. Follow Read Motorsport for all the coverage from down under.
