- Hamilton didn’t attend the MET Gala, possibly because of a tiring Miami weekend.
- He comes to NYC to watch a Kardashian-produced Broadway following the fashion event.
- Hamilton sparked key conversations during his 2021 MET appearance.
Fans earlier speculated that Kim Kardashian and Lewis Hamilton might go to the MET Gala together as their frequent public outings continue to fuel romance rumours.
Kardashian did steal the spotlight on the red carpet with her tangerine fibreglass breastplate by British pop artist Allen Jones. However, Hamilton wasn’t present at the event, prompting many to wonder why he couldn’t attend the prestigious fashion event he co-chaired last year.
Kardashian and Hamilton sparked dating rumours during Valentine’s month when The Sun reported that they were on a romantic getaway at the exclusive Estelle Manor in the Cotswolds. It was reported that Kardashian flew to Hamilton with a lot of luggage for a brief stay.
Since then, the couple have been spotted together on several occasions and has also subtly hinted at their bond on social media. Though Hamilton wasn’t able to make it to the MET Gala, he did return to New York City to spend time with Kardashian, as they both attended the latter’s produced Broadway play Fear of 13. They were papped holding hands, exiting Broadway and entering the vehicle.
Reason behind Hamilton’s absence from the MET Gala
The MET Gala was held in The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on May 4, 2026. A day before the event, the Miami Grand Prix happened.
A possible reason for Hamilton’s absence could be that he might have been tired from the race weekend and might not have been able to fly immediately to NYC to attend the fashion event.
It takes somewhere around 2-4 hours to fly from Miami to New York, but Hamilton might have preferred to sit out the MET Gala and later meet Kardashian in the city for her Broadway.
Hamilton recently also took to Instagram to share an update on how the race weekend went for him personally. “A challenging weekend for us. With the contact I was pretty much stuck in no man’s land and couldn’t extract more from the car,” he wrote.
He mentioned that it was “tough” to take, considering the efforts the team put in, but assured that this weekend does not “define” them and that they are looking forward to “keep going.”
“We’re taking what we can from these past few days and putting everything else behind us. We move forward,” he concluded. Hamilton finished 6th at the Miami Grand Prix.
How Hamilton converted his 2021 MET invitation into something meaningful
In a conversation with Vogue, Hamilton revealed that he always wanted to attend the MET Gala but got his first invitation in 2015.
However, in 2021, it came to his mind that he no longer wanted to just attend but also stand out and spark conversation around fashion, self-expression, and Black culture. He revealed that he worked with Law Roach and proposed an idea to create a table together.
“We invite a few up-and-coming Black designers, have them dress some guests, and we all show up together—so it’s about creating space and opportunity?
“And also, I was going to buy the table myself. Of course, everyone looked great, but I felt like that night opened up a dialogue about amplifying underrepresented voices and talent,” he elaborated.
