Oliver Bearman’s future at Haas has emerged as the main talking point as Formula 1 turns its attention towards Mexico, while Kyle Larson and Marc Marquez lead the latest developments elsewhere in motorsport.
Here are the stories to catch up on in the latest Read Motorsport News.
Bearman and Haas hit contract stumbling block
Oliver Bearman’s F1 future is attracting attention after his contract negotiations with Haas reportedly slowed. The British driver is said to be seeking €6m to remain with the American team in 2027, with Haas currently unwilling to meet that figure.
Both sides have previously indicated they want to continue together, meaning there is no suggestion a split is inevitable. But the reported disagreement leaves Bearman’s Haas future unresolved as teams begin shaping their 2027 line-ups.
Mexico takes centre stage
Attention is already turning towards this weekend’s Mexico City Grand Prix, where Kimi Antonelli could secure the world championship. The Mercedes driver arrives at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez needing only two points to clinch the title following his ninth victory of the season in Austin.
Mexico provides one of F1’s most unusual challenges. Our look at the history of the Mexican Grand Prix explains how the race has evolved and why competing more than 2,000 metres above sea level causes teams so many problems.
We have also revisited five classic Mexican Grands Prix, from John Surtees’ dramatic 1964 title triumph to Sergio Perez making history on home soil in 2021.
Larson closes on NASCAR crown
Kyle Larson could wrap up his third NASCAR Cup Series championship at Martinsville following his remarkable Talladega victory. Larson fell as low as 11th on the final lap before charging back through the field to beat Hendrick Motorsports team-mate William Byron by just 0.041 seconds.
The result transformed a five-point championship advantage into a 73-point lead. Our Talladega report explains what Larson now needs to secure the championship before the Homestead finale.
Marquez takes MotoGP lead
Marc Marquez heads the MotoGP standings after a dramatic Australian weekend at Phillip Island. Marquez won the Sprint as title rival Jorge Martin crashed and suffered a fractured right wrist. Sunday’s Grand Prix was subsequently cancelled because poor visibility prevented the medical helicopter from operating safely.
Marquez therefore leaves Australia 10 points clear with four rounds remaining, adding another title fight to watch as the motorsport season approaches its conclusion.
