The Miami Grand Prix attracted a lot of celebrities and prominent figures from the entertainment and sports world, who came to enjoy the on-track battles and enhance the event’s atmosphere.
While the GP gave a lot of thrilling and enjoyable moments, one that caught everyone’s attention was an awkward interaction between Jimmy Fallon and Martin Brundle, which went viral on the internet. Brundle recently also took to social media to address the moment, referring to Fallon’s unexpected ‘mic’ move in the paddock.
The overall race was quite thrilling, but Turn 1 and the final lap made it even more eventful, as the drivers, apart from those in first and second place, fought hard for a podium finish and to secure maximum points. Kimi Antonelli became the winner, followed by Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. Antonelli made history by becoming the first driver to win three races back-to-back from pole position.
Fallon and Brundle’s awkward moment explained
During the pre-race grid walk, Brundle was making his way through the crowd with the mic in his hand, and then suddenly spotted Fallon. It did appear initially that they might engage in an interesting conversation, but unfortunately, it didn’t happen; a bizarre moment happened between the two instead. As Brundle approached the Tonight Show presenter, the latter grabbed the mic, not to speak, but rather to bite the cover. Brundle took away the mic and politely told Fallon not to do such an act again.
Brundle took to X (formerly Twitter) to address the bizarre interaction. He wrote, “In 30 years of broadcasting, I’ve never wondered what a branded microphone sock tastes like. There’s some very funny people around.”
Fallon responds to the viral moment with Brundle
During a recent episode of The Tonight Show, Fallon detailed his experience at the Miami Grand Prix while addressing the awkward incident. He explained, “They have a thing called the grid where they had you go out onto the track right before the race, and you do like 20 interviews with reporters all over the world.” Jokingly replying to how the microphone cover tasted, “Martin Brundle, by the way your microphone tastes delicious.”
Fallon was also invited to the Red Bull garage on race day. He sported headphones that provide internal communication between the engineers and drivers, Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar. The four-time world champion secured a 5th position, which remains as is even after receiving a 5-second penalty later. Whereas Hadjar, who was disqualified from the GP and started from the pit lane, the race ended in DNF.
