Oliver Bearman recently expressed his readiness to succeed Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari once he decides to retire. He believes that he’s up for the next challenge in his career and that he is determined to perform well to give the Italian team a reason to take him in.
Interestingly, Bearman has experience driving a Ferrari, having been appointed a reserve driver in 2024.
During the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix 2024, he replaced Carlos Sainz Jr. as he suffered from appendicitis. On his debut, he performed impressively, finishing 7th and bringing the team points. At the time, he was also voted the Driver of the day and was lauded across the paddock for driving so well in his first GP.
Bearman is ready for his chapter in Ferrari
In a conversation with the Daily Mail, Bearman revealed that he feels ready for his next challenge at Ferrari and wants the team to pick him as he continues to work on his racecraft. He said, “If I didn’t say that, it wouldn’t be worth going to the track. I am young and have years to go. I just want to give them a reason for me to be a choice. The faster I drive, the better my chances are.”
Revealing how he’s working towards the goal to improve constantly, he added, “I concentrate on myself, on giving my best performances for Haas. Just as the team debrief after every weekend, I do the same internally and with my coach as well. We make sure there is no stone left unturned.”
He stressed how it’s not always about the result but about one’s performance. He added that to improve, one should have no ego and be open to criticising oneself if mistakes happen. It’s essential to have self-confidence too, so that one doesn’t get engrossed in blaming others, he says.
Additionally, he also revealed that he’s loving the hustle and being part of the sport. As Bearman has a sweet tooth, he’s working on controlling his cravings and fitting into the weight needed by the rules. While he’s controlling having sweets, he’s also cycling a lot to be in good shape.
Bearman could land a seat in Ferrari in future
F1 has changed entirely this year, but it hasn’t held the young driver back from securing some good points for Haas, placing it right after McLaren in the current standings. Bearman‘s consistent efforts to be better at his racecraft and delivering brilliantly have been evident on several weekends (think: Mexico GP 2025).
Even on his F1 debut, he proved he could be the young talent that the Italian team could rely on in its pursuit of excellence and success. Three races in, Bearman sits seventh in the standings, holding more points than his experienced teammate Esteban Ocon, who has managed to secure just one.
Currently, Hamilton’s contract exists till 2027 at Ferrari, if at all, after that, if he decides to retire, a seat could be empty for them to hire a potentially young talent, which could be Bearman. Moreover, the Briton also wants to fulfill his dream of donning the red suit again. He has also appreciated the Italian team for picking him up from F4 and for having invested in and believed in him since the start.
