Lewis Hamilton is set to receive a five-place penalty for Sunday’s Austrian Grand Prix due to failing to meet the minimum amount of races before changing his gearbox.
Mercedes informed the FIA this past Tuesday that a gearbox change was necessary following Baku.
FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer said: “The above driver did finish the last race in Baku and this gearbox change was before the six consecutive events expired.
“As this is not in compliance with article 23.5a of the 2017 Formula 1 sporting regulations, I am referring this matter to the stewards for their consideration.
“The team informed the technical delegate about the gearbox change on Tuesday, 04th July 2017, at 11:29 hours.”

Hamilton has suffered from some woeful Fridays so far this season, but he had a much more comfortable first couple of sessions in Austria.
“It was a smooth day generally,” Hamilton said. “For the first time, we started off with a good baseline.
“Usually we’re not so great initially and then we have to build up from it, so I’m happy.
“For the first time we started in a good place with the balance of the car and we’re just trying to finesse it.”
