Nicolo Bulega secures VR46 Ducati MotoGP seat for 2027

Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team has signed WorldSBK standout Nicolo Bulega for the 2027 MotoGP season on factory-supported Ducati machinery.

The 26-year-old Italian effectively replaces outgoing veteran Franco Morbidelli to complete the Borgo Panigale premier-class roster for the incoming 850cc era. His promotion validates the production-based paddock as a legitimate top-tier proving ground, mirroring crossover career resurrections like Robert Shwartzman securing a factory WEC drive.

Completing A Remarkable Career Resurrection

Bulega previously departed the VR46 Academy in 2021 following a difficult Moto2 tenure. He rebuilt his reputation through the World Supersport ranks before graduating to WorldSBK. There, he has dominated the current campaign, having won 26 out of 27 races.

Beyond the emotional reunion, the inbound rookie brings extensive testing experience aboard Ducati’s 850cc prototype. His deep familiarity with Pirelli rubber offers VR46 a distinct developmental advantage. It ensures they avoid the reactive operational shifts seen with recent WRC tyre allocation changes.

Factory Ducati Support For 2027

Speaking to motorsport.com, the Italian expressed his satisfaction with the agreement.

“Getting to MotoGP is a dream, as I will make my debut with the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team,” Bulega said.

“I chose this team because I have always been linked to them: I was part of the VR46 Riders Academy when I was a child, so I know everyone very well. I don’t want to set specific goals. I want to try to do well, go race by race and do the best job possible.”

The incoming rookie will now measure his premier-class transition against fellow Moto2 graduates David Alonso, Dani Holgado, and Izan Guevara.
