The 35-year-old has secured the No. 42 Legacy Motor Club seat for the 2027 NASCAR Cup Series following a historic run of late-season form.
Berry will replace John Hunter Nemechek to join Erik Jones and Riley Herbst as the Toyota outfit expands to three full-time entries. Co-owner Jimmie Johnson will also pilot a fourth car at the 2027 Daytona 500 for his final start.
The Tennessee native was left without a drive in June when Wood Brothers Racing opted to sign Jesse Love. That mid-season decision now looks premature. Berry responded by delivering six consecutive top-ten finishes, marking the best run for the iconic Ford team since the mid-1970s.
Late Form Forces Paddock Shift
This dramatic career turnaround convinced his new employers to restructure their future lineup. Global driver markets remain fluid, evidenced by Robert Shwartzman securing a Peugeot factory seat in endurance racing. Berry capitalised on this shifting landscape to seal his own Cup Series future.
“Can’t wait to get to work,” Berry said in a video broadcast on “The Club” platform, according to Racing America On SI.
The stock car veteran previously earned a single Cup victory at Las Vegas in 2025. His late-season resilience commands paddock attention during a period when the championship is evaluating broader conduct standards. By converting immediate unemployment into a factory-backed Toyota drive, Berry has vindicated his premier-class credentials.
The revised Legacy Motor Club lineup will make its competitive debut at the 2027 season-opening Daytona 500.
