Dennis Hauger secures multi-year IndyCar deal with AJ Foyt Racing

The 2026 IndyCar Series Rookie of the Year Dennis Hauger has secured a multi-year contract with AJ Foyt Racing beginning next season.

The 23-year-old Norwegian driver will take the wheel of the number 14 Chevrolet for the 2027 campaign following a debut top-tier year with Dale Coyne Racing.

His commitment highlights a continuing trend of European open-wheel prospects building permanent American careers.

This path contrasts sharply with drivers navigating uncertain reserve roles, mirroring situations such as the fitness wait for Isack Hadjar on the fringes of the grand prix grid.

Hauger arrived in the United States last year, dominating the 2025 Indy NXT championship with six victories.

His previous European resume includes the 2021 FIA Formula 3 title alongside five Formula 2 wins as a Red Bull Junior.

Restructuring The Technical Program

Team president Larry Foyt highlighted the incoming driver’s immediate adaptability as a driving factor for their ongoing commercial and engineering expansion.

“We’ve spent a lot of time talking about where we want this team to go,” Foyt told motorsport.com. “We’re investing in our people, our technical side and our commercial program because we want to continue moving forward. Dennis is a big part of that plan.”

“I’m really excited about it,” Hauger added. “This team has so much history in this sport, but what intrigues me even more was hearing about the future and what they’re building now.”

The agreement introduces another Nordic contender to the series, joining established Scandinavian talents celebrated by Felix Rosenqvist’s public homecoming event after his historic Indianapolis triumph.

Hauger will make his initial public appearance for the squad at a Michigan gala on 2 October.

AJ Foyt Racing expects to announce its second driver for the upcoming grid in the coming weeks.
