Tymek Kucharczyk delivered a flawless lights-to-flag victory at Laguna Seca to claim his second win of the Indy NXT season.
Piloting the number 71 HMD Motorsports car, the Polish racer was untouchable across the 30-lap contest. He crossed the line with a commanding 6.5765-second advantage. His peak pace on the Californian road course provided a stark contrast to his opening-lap spin during Saturday’s race. The dominant Sunday drive ultimately secured him third in the overall standings.
Johnson Clinches Overall Championship
While Kucharczyk pushed for maximum performance, Nikita Johnson focused on the championship. The 18-year-old steered his Cape Motorsports machine to a calculated second place. After avoiding a first-lap collision, he settled into a rhythm that yielded the title. Johnson ended a remarkably consistent campaign with top-ten finishes in every single round.
“It’s amazing,” Johnson said. “It’s good to finally show my emotions. I think a lot of people thought I was passionless, but I’m just emotionless when I drive, right? I just go out there and do the work. And I’m happy that the work’s done. Now, I can finally go celebrate.”
Fittipaldi Mounts Recovery Drive
Lochie Hughes completed the podium for Andretti Global. Further back, Enzo Fittipaldi carved through the field from twelfth on the grid to finish fifth. The Brazilian-American fell 29 points short of Johnson in the final tally.
Kucharczyk, meanwhile, revelled in a statement performance at a venue famous for its legendary Corkscrew corner.
With the championship decided, Johnson now evaluates his future career enhancement package for the IndyCar Series.
