Francesco Bagnaia has confirmed he underwent successful endoscopic fasciotomy surgery on his right forearm during the 2026 MotoGP summer break, with the Ducati rider targeting a competitive return for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on August 7th-9th.
The operation was performed by Professor Luigi Tarallo’s medical team at the Orthopaedic Clinic of the Policlinico di Modena, addressing chronic compartment syndrome that has affected the 26-year-old throughout the 2026 season. The condition, caused by intense muscular demands during MotoGP race weekends, has long plagued elite motorcycle racers.
“The surgery went exactly as planned,” Bagnaia told MotoGP.com in a statement released Monday morning. “I’m grateful to the medical team for their expertise. Now it’s about rehabilitation and getting back to full fitness before Silverstone.”
The timing of Bagnaia’s intervention carries particular significance. 2026 represents his final season with the Ducati factory squad before he transitions to Aprilia in 2027, where he’ll partner with Jorge Martín — the current championship leader — as the iconic Italian marque bids to resurrect its MotoGP fortunes.
The summer break provides a three-week window for recovery before the British Grand Prix. Medical assessments suggest Bagnaia will have adequate time to rehabilitate, though his race readiness remains contingent on pain-free full grip strength restoration — a critical variable for competitive performance on Ducati’s race bike.
Bagnaia’s absence from the Sachsenring, where he finished outside the points, underscored the severity of his condition.
