Bezzecchi Vows Silverstone MotoGP Return After Collarbone Surgery

Marco Bezzecchi has vowed to be fit for next month’s British Grand Prix, just days after surgery to repair the collarbone he fractured in Sachsenring MotoGP qualifying.

According to a fresh update from Crash.net, the Aprilia rider made his first public appearance since Sunday’s operation via video link to Italy’s “Moto d’Italia – Cultura oltre la pista” initiative, where he was also named an Ambassador of Sports Diplomacy. With bandaging still visible on his shoulder, Bezzecchi told the event: “The operation went well, and I’ll be at Silverstone.” Aprilia’s own statement was more guarded, saying only that the team “hope to see Marco return to racing” at the 7-9 August round, with a fuller prognosis still to follow.

Jorge Martin’s MotoGP Championship Lead Now Rests On Bezzecchi’s Recovery

The injury could not have arrived at a worse moment for Bezzecchi’s title bid. He goes into the summer break fourth in the standings after collecting just 13 points from a possible 148 across the last four rounds, sliding 22 points behind Aprilia team-mate Jorge Martin, while Marc Marquez’s perfect Sachsenring weekend has reignited the fight at the front of the championship.

Whether Bezzecchi actually lines up at Silverstone is still not guaranteed. He must pass a medical check on the Thursday of race week before he’s cleared to compete, and Aprilia confirmed this week that the fracture was reduced and stabilised in a successful procedure, leaving the rest of the three-week break as his only window to rebuild enough strength to ride a factory-spec MotoGP bike at competitive pace.

For a rider leading the championship as recently as May, the message from his sickbed is defiant rather than downbeat – but Aprilia’s medical staff, not just his own resolve, will have the final say on Silverstone.
