Marc Marquez Wins Sachsenring Sprint As Bezzecchi Ruled Out

Marc Marquez won a hard-fought Sachsenring Sprint to close within 32 points of the MotoGP championship lead, as Ducati locked out the podium and Marco Bezzecchi was ruled out of the rest of the German Grand Prix weekend with a fractured collarbone.

According to motogp.com’s official race report, the reigning World Champion converted Saturday’s pole position into a second straight Sachsenring Sprint victory, resisting late pressure from brother Alex Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio across the 15-lap encounter to complete an all-Ducati podium at his happiest hunting ground. Di Giannantonio’s late charge fell agonisingly short, but the Italian now sits just 13 points off the championship lead heading into the summer break, two behind second place.

Marco Bezzecchi Ruled Out With Fractured Collarbone

Marco Bezzecchi will play no further part in the German Grand Prix after scans confirmed a “complete and displaced” fracture to his left collarbone, sustained in a heavy qualifying crash on Saturday, according to The Race and Crash.net. The Aprilia rider is set to fly home to Italy for surgery and, per motogp.com, has roughly a three-week window to recover in time for the British Grand Prix at the start of August.

Bezzecchi’s absence handed championship leader Jorge Martin a straightforward run to sixth in the Sprint, extending his advantage to 11 points over his now-sidelined Aprilia team-mate. Further back, Francesco Bagnaia claimed seventh for the factory Ducati Lenovo Team, with Pedro Acosta and Fabio Quartararo rounding out the points-scorers in eighth and ninth.

With Marquez now needing just 32 points to close the gap at the top of the standings, Sunday’s 30-lap Grand Prix at the Sachsenring looks set to be another pivotal chapter in a title race that keeps tightening with every round.
