Max Verstappen’s camp wants clarity on his Red Bull future before Formula 1 reaches the summer break, putting an early marker on one of the 2027 driver market’s biggest decisions.
The update centres on Verstappen, Red Bull Racing and his manager Raymond Vermeulen, who told Sport Bild that the Dutchman’s contract runs until the end of 2028 but contains exit clauses that have not yet been used.
Vermeulen said the preference remains for Verstappen to continue with Red Bull and eventually finish his F1 career there, but added that the four-time champion must retain the chance to compete for victories, according to Crash.net’s report on the Sport Bild interview.
Why Verstappen’s timeline matters for Red Bull and Mercedes
The timing is the real news. A decision before the summer break would prevent Red Bull, Verstappen and possible suitors from drifting into the late-season market with uncertainty still hanging over the grid.
Mercedes remain the obvious external reference point because Toto Wolff has long admired Verstappen, while Kimi Antonelli and George Russell shape the team’s current driver puzzle. Any serious movement around Verstappen would immediately affect that picture.
For Red Bull, the message is equally sharp: contract length alone will not settle the issue if performance slips. The decisive question is whether the team can convince Verstappen that its 2027 package keeps him in winning contention.
