Liam Lawson has turned Racing Bulls’ Silverstone weekend into a live threat to Alpine’s place in the Formula 1 constructors’ order.
The New Zealander finished sixth in the 2026 British Grand Prix, one place ahead of team-mate Arvid Lindblad, as Racing Bulls scored with both cars for the fourth successive grand prix.
Formula 1’s post-race team notes said the result moved Racing Bulls to within one point of Alpine in the Teams’ Championship, a sharp swing after Alpine entered Silverstone with a 13-point buffer over its midfield rival.
Lawson gives Racing Bulls a clean midfield marker
Lawson’s race carried extra weight because it was not a one-off scramble through late chaos. He said Racing Bulls had shown strong race pace and linked the run to the upgrade package first explored in Barcelona and introduced in Canada.
Speedcafe reported that Lawson equalled his best result of the season with sixth, while RacingNews365 noted it was his fifth consecutive points finish. That makes the run significant beyond Silverstone: Racing Bulls now has a repeatable scoring base, not just a Sunday of opportunism.
The contrast with Alpine is blunt. Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto both described the British GP as damage limitation, with Alpine restricted to ninth and tenth while Lawson and Lindblad banked sixth and seventh.
