Marc Marquez Wins German MotoGP As Sachsenring King Matches Agostini’s Record

Marc Marquez claimed a dominant win in Sunday’s German MotoGP at the Sachsenring, matching Giacomo Agostini’s all-time record of ten premier-class victories at a single circuit.

According to Motorsport Week, the Ducati Lenovo rider led every one of the 30 laps after starting from pole position, completing a perfect weekend double following Saturday’s sprint victory. Crash.net reported that Marquez crossed the line 1.996 seconds clear of Trackhouse Aprilia’s Ai Ogura, with team-mate Raul Fernandez completing the podium in third.

Jorge Martin Survives Subdued Day To Keep Aprilia’s Championship Lead

Championship leader Jorge Martin finished fifth after an intense scrap with Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia, who crossed the line just behind in sixth. The result trims Martin’s cushion but keeps him top of the standings on 208 points, with Ogura now his closest challenger on 194. Marquez’s win lifts him to third on 190 points, a remarkable turnaround for a rider who trailed the championship lead by 102 points after Mugello.

The race was shaken up further when sprint runner-up Alex Marquez, riding in a special 2003-style Gresini livery, slid off at the final corner while holding second on lap 10, while Fabio Di Giannantonio crashed out from fifth for the second time in the weekend.

With MotoGP now heading into the summer break before the British Grand Prix at Silverstone from August 7-9, Marquez’s Sachsenring sprint win and Sunday’s grand prix sweep have turned a two-way title fight into a genuine free-for-all heading into the second half of the season.
