Prema announces plans for three car FIA F3 team
Junior series powerhouse Prema Racing has announced it will run a three car team in the new FIA Formula 3 championship in 2019.
The new series, which merges the current European Formula 3 and GP3 championships, will run on the Formula 1 support bill alongside Formula 2 next year.
Prema has dominated the current iteration of the European F3 series, winning the teams’ championship every years since the series began in 2013 and taking six of the seven drivers’ titles. It’s latest success came with Mick Schumacher, who claimed the title with a race to spare earlier this month.
The Italian squad aims to continue its success in the new F3 series and will reveal its three-driver line-up at the start of the season.
“We are very proud to join the 2019 FIA Formula 3 ranks,” said team principal Rene Rosin.
“Given our successful history in F3 racing and our commitment towards promoting and developing the skills of young talented drivers, joining this brand-new challenge from the beginning seemed like the logical step to us.
“We will do our utmost to succeed in this new endeavour and we can’t wait for the 2019 season to start.”
Prema is one of 10 teams confirmed for the inaugural season of the new championship.
It joins ART Grand Prix, Campos Racing, carlin, Charouz Racing System, Hitech GP, HWA Racelab, Jenzer Motorsport, MP Motorsport, and Trident.
