Fenestraz on pole for Formula 3 at Silverstone
Renault junior Sacha Fenestraz claims pole for the opening European Formula 3 race of the weekend at Silverstone.
Fenestraz jumped to the top of the times late in the session with a 1m50.619s lap, knocking early pace setter Dan Ticktum down to second.
The Carlin driver later improved with a 1m50.571s lap, a benchmark the rest of the field found untouchable.
Guanyu Zhou came closest, finishing just 0.040s behind Fenestraz, with Ticktum taking third.
Jonathan Aberdein set the exact same lap time as team-mate Ticktum but, as the South African’s time was set after Ticktum’s, he finished the session P4.
Championship leader Marcus Armstrong took fifth, ahead of Mick Schumacher, Alex Palou, and Enaam Ahmed.
Jehan Daruvala, who had topped the times in the first 10 minutes of the session, finished ninth, with Juri Vips rounding out the top 10.
