Schumacher fastest in Red Bull Ring test
Prema Powerteam’s Mick Schumacher topped the times in the second pre-season test ahead of the 2018 European Formula 3 championship.
The 19-year-old topped the times in the second day of testing at the Red Bull Ring, ending the two-day test a tenth of a second faster than Carlin’s Ferdinand Habsburg.
Schumacher and Habsburg were the only drivers to set lap times lower than 1m23s around the Austrian track, with Schumacher completing his best lap in 1m22.828s.
McLaren Autosport Award winner Daniel Ticktum was fastest in the first day of the test, his 1m23.037s putting him ahead of Schumacher by just 0.01s. But the Red Bull junior couldn’t match the performance in day two and completed a lap two tenths of a second slower than his Monday effort. His best time of the test was enough to put him third fastest overall, ahead of Sacha Fenestraz and Alex Palou.
Snow over day two’s lunch break meant few drivers improved their lap times in the afternoon session. Fenestraz was one of the three drivers who did manage to go faster on the slippery circuit, with his 1m23.078s lap his best time of the test.
Motopark’s Sebastian Fernandez ended the two-days sixth fastest, followed by HitechGP’s Enaam Ahmed.
Ferrari Juniors Guanyu Zhou, Robert Shwartzman, and Marcus Armstrong completed the top 10.
