Schumacher tops first day of F3 preseason testing

Prema Powerteam’s Mick Schumacher topped the times in the first preseason test ahead of the 2018 European Formula 3 championship.

The 18-year-old set his fastest time of the day within the first hour of testing at the Hungaroring, but none of the 22 other drivers testing were able to match his time.

Alex Palou, making his F3 debut with Hitech GP, was second quickest. He ended the morning session just 0.081s off Schumacher’s time and closed the gap to just 0.044s before the end of the day.

After losing its streak of F3 titles last season, Prema made its intentions for the year clear in the first official test. Schumacher’s team-mates Marcus Armstrong, Ralf Aron, and Guanyu Zhou completed the top five.

Carlin’s Sacha Fenestraz and Jehan Daruvala finished the afternoon session second and third quickest, putting them sixth and seventh overall ahead of team-mate Ferdinand Habsburg and Hitech GP’s Enaam Ahmed

McLaren Autosport BRDC Award winner Dan Ticktum completed the top 10, just a thousandth of a second slower than Ahmed.
