2017 ADAC Formula 4 champion Juri Vips will compete with Motopark in the upcoming Formula 3 European Championship season.
The Estonian teenager spent last year driving for Prema in his second ADAC F4 season, where he won the title by 4.5 points, thanks to two race wins and five podiums.
He also took part in three rounds of the Italian F4 Championship as a guest driver, and managed to win one of the nine races he drove in.
While his ADAC F4 teammate and title rival Marcus Armstrong moves up to F3 with Prema, Vips joined Motopark for the Hockenheim finale of the F3 season last year, and thus already has three races in the series under his belt.
He has also tested the Dallara F3 car with the team.
“The cooperation with Team Motopark ran smooth as silk right from the word go,” Vips said.
“My early experiences reassure me that I’ve found the right environment with a very strong support to help me learn my trade in F3, which is a totally different world from F4.
“What I found at Hockenheim and in our early off-season prep programme makes me very confident of a good start to my F3 life.”
Team principal Timo Rumpfkeil said: ” “We took a good, hard look at Juri’s progress in the 2016 and 2017 Formula 4 seasons because we had heard about the reputation which preceded him; and his two years did indeed show he is an extremely promising talent. He may well have what it takes to go all the way.”
He is the fifth driver to be confirmed by Rumpfkeil’s team, with Fabio Scherer, Dan Ticktum, Marino Sato and Jonathan Aberdein also driving for the German squad. This makes the 17 year old the 24th driver to be confirmed for a European F3 campaign next season, although more entries are expected to be announced.
