Ma-con makes European F3 return

Team Ma-con will return to the European Formula 3 championship after a four-year absence from the series.

Ma-con fielded front running drivers in the 2012 and 2013 European F3 championships, but didn’t return for the ’14 season.

The German team will run ADAC Formula 4 race winner Julian Hanses in its return to the series.

“We are looking forward to being part of [the championship] again,” said team principal Otto Schwadtke. “We are certainly the underdog of all teams but I am very confident that we will spring a surprise here and there. The whole team is highly motivated and burns for the project.”

Hanses has already begun testing for his F3 debut. The 20-year-old ran tests with Motopark last summer and Van Amersfoort late last year, but is yet to turn a wheel I a Ma-con run car.

“It is a great honour for me to have the chance to compete in one of the most famous junior racing series in the world,” he said.

“Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher have already been racing Formula 3 successfully and paved their way for higher tasks.

“I am aware that this is not going to be an easy task. The competition is strong and many race tracks are new to me.

“I just can’t wait for the season to begin. Currently the team and I are working flat out on our preparations for my Formula 3 debut and I will be happy when we finally go out for the first tests.”

Ma-con hasn’t yet confirmed what engine it will run this season. In previous F3 campaigns the team ran Volkswagen machinery, but later developed a relationship with ORECA as it moved to other series.
