Franco Morbidelli takes vital win for championship charge

Franco Morbidelli took a vital win for his world championship chances at Aragon.

The Marc VDS rider managed to just beat out Mattia Pasini too extend his championship lead over Tom Luthi with just four rounds left of the championship.

Morbidelli managed to get away from the pack early, before Pasini caught up to him. The pair battled, but Pasini had to settle for second whilst Morbidelli took the win. Pole-man Miguel Oliveria finished in third.

Tom Luthi could only manage fourth. This means the Swiss rider has it all to do if he wants to win the championship before he moves to MotoGP next season. Brad Binder was an impressive fifth, with Jorge Navarro crossing the line in an equally impressive sixth.

Simone Corsi was seventh, with Takaaki Nakagami eighth. Sandro Cortese was ninth across the line, with Francesco Bagnaia tenth. Fabio Quartararo was eleventh with Dominique Aegerter twelfth.

The Moto2 world title fight is getting closer to the finish. In two weeks time, the riders will return for the Japanese GP from Motegi.
