Callum Ilott built on his free practice pace with pole for the first European Formula 3 race of the weekend.
The Prema Powerteam driver set a time of 1m23.301s on his last lap of the Red Bull Ring, narrowly beating team-mate Maximilian Gunther. Gunther, who was just two hundredths of a second slower than Ilott, took second to give Prema a front row lock out.
Joel Eriksson claimed third ahead of championship leader Lando Norris, who’s time was a quarter of a second slower than Ilott’s.
Behind them, Tadsuke Makino and Nikita Mazepin are set to take the third row of the grid at the start of tomorrow’s race, ahead of the Van Amersfoort duo of Joey Mawson and Harrison Newey. Early pacesetter Ferdinand Habsburg completes the top 10.
Championship newcomer Devlin DeFrancesco could only manage 18th fastest ahead of Petru Florescu, who made his F3 debut at the last round.
