McLaren junior Norris takes pole in Spa

Carlin’s Lando Norris took his fourth pole of the European Formula 3 season for the first race at Spa this weekend.

The McLaren junior driver set a time of 2m12.144 in much drier conditions than the morning practice sessions. His time was just two tenths of a second fastest than championship rival Callum Ilott, who took second.

Points leader Maximilian Gunther took fourth, just behind Jake Hughes. Hoel Eriksson, who is currently second in the standings, could only manage 12th fastest after struggling in the wet free practice sessions.

Nakita Mazepin was fifth fastest and is set to start alongside Prema Powerteam’s Guanyu Zhou for tomorrow morning’s race. Jehan Daruvala and Ralf Aron will make up the fourth row of the grid.

The Van Amersfoort duo of Harrison Newey and Pedro Piquet round off the top 10 after briefly running at the top of the timings early in the session.
