Callum Ilott topped the third day of preseason testing after failing to set a time in the morning session. The British driver pipped team-mate Maximilian Gunther with a time just 0.155s faster than the German’s.
Ilott’s running was limited throughout the day. He only completed 22 laps in the morning session and no series flying lap as the team ran through an alternative programme. The Prema driver managed to set a time not long into the afternoon session, but he left it until the last hour to jump to the top of the timings.
Day one pace setter, Lando Norris, was the fastest of the rookies. The Carlin driver led for the majority of the morning session, and was the fastest early in the afternoon too. He finished the day third fastest overall, behind Ilott and Gunther.
Prema driver Guan Yu Zhou was the fourth fastest driver, though he also failed to set a flying lap in the morning session.
Testing continues tomorrow at the Red Bull Ring.
