Carlin’s Lando Norris kicked off his rookie European Formula 3 season by topping the timings in the first preseason test of the year.
The rookie was one of only two drivers to set a time faster than 1m35s at the Hungaroring today.
Arriving in F3 having taken the Formula Renault 2.0 title last season, Norris is one of the favourites for to take the F3 championship despite his rookie status. The Brit proved he has earned his reputation this morning by setting the fastest time of the day before the lunch break.
Norris’ team-mate, Jake Dennis, spent the majority of the afternoon session the top of the times, but a series of impressive laps by Van Amersfoort’s Joey Mawson towards the end of the day saw him knocked down to third. Mawson was close behind Norris, setting a time just 0.155s slower than the Carlin driver’s.
The session ended when Motopark’s Marino Sato brought out the red flag with less than ten minutes on the clock, ending the day. Sato completed fewer laps than any other driver, with only 11 in the morning and five in the afternoon. The session was not restarted.
