Gunther completes Prema line-up

2016 runner up Maximilian Gunther will continue in the European Formula 3 championship with Prema Powerteam.

Gunther made his F3 debut in 2015 with Mucke Motorsport before switching to Prema for the final round of his debut season. The German built on the lessons learned in his first season in 2016, when he took four race wins, but he missed out on the championship when he finished about 180 points behind team-mate Lance Stroll.

This season, the teenager is hoping to go one step further and take the title.

“Last year it was our first together and we finished second in the championship, so I’m really happy to go back on-track and go for the championship which is our goal,” Gunther said. “We worked really hard this winter to be in the best shape and I’m looking forward to the season.”

“The return of Maximilian provides even more value to the full roster,” said team manager Rene Rosin. “Running with us in 2017, he not only scored remarkable results, but also showed great consistency, keeping his name at the front end of the charts. We are sure that, with two full seasons now under his belt, including one with our team, he will be able to raise the bar even further. We fully expect to see him as a true contender.”

Gunther completes Prema’s four driver strong line-up, joining Callum Ilott, Mick Schumacher, and Guan Yu Zhou. The Italian team once again has a strong line-up and will provide a tough challenge as it defends its title as teams’ champion.
