The final race of the 2015/16 Formula E season at Battersea Park in London will be remembered for many years.
After securing pole position for the second race on Sunday, Sebastien Buemi moved level with Lucas di Grassi at the top of the drivers’ standings. What was about to ensue was what no one would have predicted before lights out.
di Grassi out-braked himself into Turn 1 and went straight into the back of Buemi, destroying the front suspension of his ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport car whilst heavily damaging the rear of Buemi’s Renault e.Dams.
Both cars were out of contention of scoring points meaning the title would come down to who could set the fastest lap of the race as in Formula E, the driver who sets the fastest lap is awarded two points.
di Grassi set the first fastest lap, but eventually, after negotiating traffic and an unsportsmanlike Brazilian, Buemi put a lap together which di Grassi could not beat to secure the crown.
