Formula E has moved decisively before the weather can move the Shanghai E-Prix title fight for it.
The championship has confirmed a revised sporting schedule for Rounds 12 and 13 at the Shanghai International Circuit after adverse conditions were forecast for both race days. The update turns the double-header into a sharply compressed early-day programme, with both races now set for 12:05 local time, or 05:05 BST.
That matters because Shanghai arrives with Mitch Evans leading Oliver Rowland by 19 points, and with the title picture still volatile after Sanya. ReadMotorSport had already framed Shanghai as a decisive pressure point for Rowland and the chasing pack in its Formula E title pivot.
Revised Shanghai E-Prix schedule
Formula E says Free Practice 2 and Free Practice 3 will take place behind closed doors, with public gates opening at 07:30 on both Saturday and Sunday. Qualifying for both rounds has been brought forward to 08:00 local time, before midday races designed to protect track time while reducing exposure to the worst of the forecast.
- Round 12 race: Saturday 4 July, 12:05 local / 05:05 BST
- Round 13 race: Sunday 5 July, 12:05 local / 05:05 BST
- FP1 marker: Pascal Wehrlein led the rain-interrupted opener with a 1m09.259
For Evans, the change sharpens the risk profile. Less representative public running means less time for rivals to reveal race pace, but it also narrows Jaguar’s margin for setup correction if rain keeps dictating the surface. Shanghai has become less of a standard double-header and more of a reaction test.
