My star driver of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is without a doubt, Jenson Button. Throughout the entire season Button has struggled, along with his teammate, to make the best of a bad situation. It’s no secret that Honda isn’t quite at winning pace as of yet. Both Button and Alonso have had a difficult season. However, on Sunday, Jenson Button drove his best race of the season.
The first giveaway of his incredible performance was when Button managed to qualify in P12, not even a second away from P10 and a place in the third qualifying session. Despite missing out on the next session, Button seemed to be very positive about the result of his qualifying, as he set a faster time than his teammate.
The positive attitude stuck around as he entered the race with a clear mind, ready to score some points. Unfortunately, Button finished in 12th place, where he qualified. Although no points were added to McLaren Honda’s tally in the championship, it was clear that Button had ended on a high.
I’m giving Jenson Button star driver because despite a difficult season where so many could’ve given up, he drove on. Right up until the final chequered flag, Button fought for every position he could. Despite mishaps in the pit lane after a small run in with Bottas, the Brit persevered and managed to bring his car home, safely, in one piece and twelfth.
