Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg set the pace in second practice at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez ahead of the Red Bull duo of Daniil Kvyat and Daniel Ricciardo.
The two Mercedes’ were split by the Red Bull’s who looked strong today. The Red Bull car looked strong in the tricky final sector whereas Mercedes dominated the opening two sectors. Sebastian Vettel was fifth fastest and fastest in the final sector.
Second practice was full of drama, Max Verstappen spun out and crashed at the final corner resulting in a red flag. Valtteri Bottas lost control of his Williams at over 200mph in the braking zone of turn four. Bottas recovered from his spin to finish seventh fastest.
Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button enjoyed strong outings for McLaren ending eighth and ninth fastest, ahead of Williams’ Felipe Massa.
Nico Hulkenberg was three-tenths faster than Mexican home hero Sergio Perez in eleventh and fifteenth respectively. While Felipe Nasr was a whopping 1.3 seconds clear of teammate Marcus Ericsson. Will Stevens was slowest once again in 19th. After his major crash, Max Verstappen did not set a lap time.
