After moving over for Jolyon Palmer in FP1, Romain Grosjean was left with further frustration after the Lotus driver suffered a gearbox issue in the middle of FP2 which curtailed his running at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
The Frenchman completed 26 laps in second practice and finished 16th fastest overall, four places behind teammate Pastor Maldonado.
Grosjean, who will be leaving Lotus to race for the new American team Haas F1, admits despite the gearbox issue, he enjoyed learning the Mexican circuit and is certain Lotus can fix the issue ahead of final practice on Saturday.
“It was really frustrating to have a gearbox issue in the middle of my single session today. The circuit is certainly interesting and very well put together and I was enjoying learning it and pushing harder. I’m sure we can get the gearbox sorted and rack-up some more laps ahead of qualifying.”
Haas F1 are expected to announce Esteban Gutierrez as Grosjean’s teammate for 2016 at 0100 GMT.
