DRS stall reason for Bottas spin in FP2

DRS stall reason for Bottas spin in FP2

Valtteri Bottas has revealed a stalled DRS caused his spin in second practice at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.

Bottas lost the rear under braking going into turn one and crashed heavily into the wall. Thankfully for him, the only damage was a detached front wing. Williams were able to fix the DRS issue and send him back out for the rest of the session. Bottas ended up seventh fastest, ahead of teammate Felipe Massa who finished tenth.

“The rear wing stalled,” Bottas explained to media in Mexico. “When I braked and the DRS closed it was still as if the DRS was open. We then made some modifications to the rear wing level and then it was okay.”

Bottas admits Williams have a lot of work to do ahead of qualifying on Saturday.

“We have plenty of work to do to get them working better. I improved more than two seconds with the option. The track will improve the more we run and there’s definitely more in it but we need to find more to really make the tyres work.”
