Abt Schaeffler driver Lucas Di Grassi thinks he has started the second season of Formula E “in good shape”, finishing in second.
Di Grassi was fighting Nicolas Prost until the Renault e.Dams driver had to retire due to a damaged rear wing and thought that he would have finished third if Prost was running normally.
After the race he said, “In normal circumstances it would have been a P3, not a P2, but I was going to fight for that P2 until the last lap of the race, you could be sure of that.
“But finishing P2 [on the] podium is a good feeling for the mechanics, a good feeling for the team. I think we’ve started the season in good shape.”
Nick Heidfeld finished third, just over 4.6 seconds behind Di Grassi, although Sebastien Buemi in the Renault e.Dams car was dominant in the race and earlier in the day.
“The competition also did a big, big step, so today the maximum I could do was second place.”
He mentioned that Abt Schaeffler has improved the car a lot over the first Formula E season, complimenting the powertrain the team is now using, and is confident that they will keep up with Renault e.Dams.
“We will start working hard to catch up and to improve on this and to improve the pace in the race.
“But we have a strong car, a strong position [and] the championship is very long. We’ll try to push the competition as long as possible.”
