Formula E Heading To Hong Kong In Season Three

It has been officially announced that season three of Formula E will see an ePrix set in the centre of Hong Kong.

The date for the event is provisionally set for October 9 2016, a year from now. If the proposed circuit is approved by the FIA, the race will take place over two kilometers in front of the famous Hong Kong skyline, going past the city hall and the Central Pier building.

At the press conference for the announcement in Hong Kong, Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag said: “The Hong Kong ePrix will be one of the highlights on the FIA Formula E Championship calendar.

As one of the most innovative, cutting-edge and fun-loving cities in the world, Hong Kong and Formula E share many of the same qualities.”

If the Beijing ePrix next year occurs in the middle of October, like this year instead of September like season one, then the Hong Kong ePrix could potentially be the season opener although Agag told Motorsport.com last week that the first season three race may take place in Montreal, Canada.

Also mentioned was the possibility for an ePrix in Australia at the end of the year before the season moves on to South America. It is unknown where, with discussions happening with more than one city.
