F2 Baku Schedule Expands As Title Fight Intensifies

Formula 2 has confirmed a drastically expanded timetable for the upcoming Azerbaijan Grand Prix meeting to include a second feature race alongside the standard sprint.

Increased Title Points In Baku

The sole support series on the Caspian Sea circuit will now host one practice, two qualifying sessions, a sprint, and two feature races.

This creates a massive scoring opportunity for championship leader Nikola Tsolov. He currently holds a slender seven-point advantage over title rival Rafael Câmara.

Adapting to volatile street circuit conditions will prove crucial for the leading teams. The situation echoes the tyre grip and overtaking challenges seen during other major junior events this month.

The additional mileage heightens both the risk and reward for contenders ahead of the Formula 1 showcase.

Expanding The Paddock Entertainment

Formula 2 chief executive Bruno Michel confirmed the decision was made alongside local promoters to capitalise on available track time. Speaking via motorsport.com, Michel noted the unique circumstances.

“This is the only weekend where the timetable allows the additional sessions, which will increase the level of entertainment even further for the attending crowd and all our fans,” he said.

Uncertainty Over Middle Eastern Finales

While the Baku expansion compensates for potential calendar disruptions, the official stance is that Qatar and Abu Dhabi will proceed under typical formats. However, geopolitical tension leaves those finales in doubt.

Such instability is potentially accelerating urgent driver lineup decisions across the wider racing paddock as teams secure their prospects.

The revised Formula 2 programme commences with free practice on Thursday morning.
