Defending series champion Jesse Love secured his first victory of the 2026 season during a chaotic NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race at World Wide Technology Raceway.
The Richard Childress Racing driver navigated a dramatic Saturday night that featured a massive multi-car pileup on pit road. On lap 48, a sudden check-up caused a severe chain reaction. Rajah Caruth and Nick Sanchez spun, with Sanchez’s car striking two crew members from Brent Crews’ team.
NASCAR immediately red-flagged the event to clear the congestion. Both crew members were evaluated and cleared without injury. The lengthy stoppage required immense driver composure, echoing the patience seen when NASCAR superteams evaluate young prospects.
Calculated Pass Clinches Gateway Win
Following the restart, pole-sitter Carson Kvapil controlled the field for a race-high 105 laps. However, Love managed his tyres expertly throughout the final stage. The Chevrolet driver initiated a physical pass through Turns 1 and 2, clearing Kvapil with just 16 laps remaining.
Finding grip to execute late overtakes has challenged drivers recently, as seen during the inaugural F3 sprint race in Madrid. Love ultimately held off Sheldon Creed to win by 0.896 seconds.
Speaking to wwtraceway.com, Love said: “It’s been really hard, but I knew that if I keep my grit … if I keep my work ethic, not just keep it, but improve it, then eventually one of these opportunities is going to be there and I’m going to freaking take it,”
The victory moves Love to fourth in the championship standings, sitting 16 points behind new leader Creed as the Chase intensifies.
