Ferrari driver and official race ambassador Carlos Sainz has unveiled a bespoke crash helmet for the inaugural Spanish Grand Prix at the new IFEMA Madring circuit.
The Madrid-born competitor is marking the capital city’s first Formula 1 race in 45 years by reviving the clean white, red, and yellow colourway from his 2005 karting debut.
Tribute To Motorsport Family Legacy
The aesthetic directly references the career of his father, rallying legend Carlos Sainz Sr., bridging a deep family heritage with the sport’s newest venue.
The 5.4 km permanent layout will provide a demanding new physical challenge for the grid.
Speaking to Motorsport.com, Sainz explained his reasoning ahead of the track action.
“From my first karting race in 2005 to my first F1 race in Madrid. For this helmet, I wanted to go back to where it all started, bring back that first design inspired by my dad’s and give it my own touch today. Can’t wait to race with it at home!” Sainz stated.
The 2026 field will face severe setup compromises during the first official track sessions as they navigate the unique geometry of the site.
The focal point of the venue is La Monumental, a 550-metre corner constructed with a blind uphill exit and a sweeping 270-degree arc.
Its 24 per cent inclination makes it the steepest and longest banked corner currently active in Formula 1.
Opening practice at the Spanish Grand Prix begins on Friday morning.
