Six-time NTT INDYCAR Series champion Scott Dixon has confirmed his departure from Chip Ganassi Racing after 25 seasons to join Arrow McLaren for the 2027 campaign, bringing one of motorsport’s most storied careers to a new chapter in a seismic late-season driver market shake-up.
Dixon, who claimed the Indianapolis 500 in 2008 and went on to become one of IndyCar’s most successful drivers with 58 career series wins, has signed a multiyear contract alongside reigning world champion Pato O’Ward at the McLaren squad. The announcement came via official IndyCar channels and marks one of the most significant driver moves of the 2026 silly season.
Arrow McLaren’s Powerful Indy Pedigree
Arrow McLaren’s full-time lineup for 2027 will now feature drivers who have combined to win 71 series races and won a combined three Indianapolis 500s—a powerhouse roster headlined by Dixon’s championship credentials and O’Ward’s recent title success. The team’s Indy strength is now unmatched, with three of its four drivers having claimed victories at the Brickyard, giving McLaren unparalleled knowledge and experience around Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s oval.
Dixon’s move ends a quarter-century relationship with Ganassi and comes at a moment when several top drivers have been reshuffled: Felix Rosenqvist has also joined Arrow McLaren for 2027 after winning this year’s Indianapolis 500, while Christian Lundgaard and Nolan Siegel were released effective end of season. For Dixon, the switch represents a chance to compete for championships in the final stage of his career under McLaren’s proven IndyCar programme, with Alex Palou’s title pursuit providing the competitive backdrop.
