Theophile Nael’s Silverstone weekend now carries sharper pressure for Campos Racing after a Spielberg round that turned raw pace into no points.
The Frenchman heads to the British round still third in the FIA Formula 3 standings, but his margin has been squeezed after qualifying only 24th in Austria. In an official FIA Formula 3 interview, Nael admitted the team’s decision to chase a tow in traffic was the wrong call.
Silverstone gives Nael instant damage-control chance
Nael recovered to 15th in both Spielberg races and still pointed to meaningful pace, including the fastest lap in the Feature Race. His own verdict was blunt enough: Campos had speed, but the Friday execution left too much work for Sunday.
That matters because Ugo Ugochukwu and Freddie Slater both reached the Spielberg podium, with Ugochukwu moving to 78 points and Slater to 62. Nael sits on 52, meaning Silverstone is no longer just a rebound weekend; it is a title-containment race.
ReadMotorSport recently tracked the wider Silverstone junior-racing squeeze through Pedro Clerot’s Rodin reset, and Nael’s case is even more direct. He finished second in last year’s Silverstone Feature Race and has already taken three poles this season.
If Campos converts that qualifying pace this time, Spielberg becomes a warning. If not, F3’s tightest title fight may start moving away from him before the summer break.
