Max Verstappen says Red Bull hope their Austria upgrade package can bring more performance at the team’s home race, with the RB22 updates arriving for this weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring.
The four-time world champion heads into Spielberg with Red Bull still chasing a clearer step against the front-running group, and the timing matters. Austria is a home event for the team, but it also arrives as Mercedes remain the benchmark and Ferrari bring fresh power-unit developments after Lewis Hamilton’s Barcelona victory.
Verstappen Waits For Red Bull Proof
Verstappen struck a measured note when asked about the package, saying Red Bull were aiming for a better car but would only know its true level once running began. According to Formula 1’s official report from Austria, the Dutchman said the team hoped the updates would add performance and show where Red Bull line up against rivals.
That makes Friday practice more than routine mileage. Red Bull need correlation as much as lap time: if the upgrade works cleanly, Verstappen has a platform for qualifying on a short lap where tiny gaps can reshape the grid. If it does not, the team’s home weekend could become another exercise in damage limitation while its rivals press on.
For Verstappen, the message was simple enough: optimism, but no claim of a breakthrough until the stopwatch backs it up.
